…and much much more
I spent 20 years trying to figure this stuff out. And I distilled everything I learned into this clear, concise book. Personal Freedom: A Guide to Creating the Life of Your Dreams is everything I learned about freedom and lifestyle design. Period.
I didn't invent all of these strategies, of course. Some were adopted from other writers who came before me — and I've identified those people in the text so you can follow up and study more of their thoughts. Some I adapted and changed. Others I created myself from the sum of my successful experiences.
But you know what I think is the most useful thing about my book…?
What’s NOT in it.
I cut the fluff, the wishful thinking, the New Age nonsense, the dead ends, the over complication, and the sort of anal robotic methods that turn your life into a paper-piling routine.
I also cut out every needless word. There are no longwinded stories and time-wasting rambles. Just strategies you can apply, and exercises that teach you how.
Sick to death of wading through useless pages of filler? Just want to get to the point? Then this is for you.
I took a long hard look at my life and my successes, and I clearly identified the key ideas that worked for me.
They will work for you too.
About Ryan Murdock
My ideal of personal freedom has always involved travel.
I’ve travelled to some of the world's most unforgiving places, including Mongolia, Tibet, Nicaragua, and North Korea, by Russian jeep, motorcycle, dugout canoe, horse and camel. But no trip had the same soul-shaking impact as the first time I set out alone on the road. I wrote about it in my first book, Vagabond Dreams: Road Wisdom from Central America.
As Editor-at-Large (Europe) for Outpost, I travel regularly on assignment to write major features for the magazine. My work has been showcased extensively in print and visual media, including Toronto’s Eye Weekly, CBC Radio and on the primetime CTV television show ETalk, Canada’s top-rated entertainment program. My Outpost feature “Taklamakan: The Worst Desert in the World†was nominated for a National Magazine Award in Canada.
As part of my personal freedom plan, I also write and publish fitness ebooks through Shapeshifter Media, Inc. I’ve coauthored several bestsellers, including Shapeshifter Body Redesign, Bodyweight Exercise Revolution and TACFIT Commando. I’ve taught training seminars across North America and Europe, and worked with international rock stars like Jim Gillette of Nitro, guitar diva Lita Ford, and Steve Kilbey of The Church. I was inducted into the International Martial Arts Hall of Fame in 2006.
You'd think all this work would keep me out of trouble, but somehow it doesn't. From run-ins with communist militaries, to physical altercations with the secret police of a certain Asian country, to survival situations on the Mongolian steppe with two Swedish girls and a very small tent, mischief continues to stalk me despite publishing deadlines. I wouldn’t want it any other way.
I created a series of exercises that will walk you through this process, one step at a time. All you have to do is follow my directions, and set aside a little time for some deep, honest thinking.
Don’t worry — it’s fun. It feels a lot like creating a character in a novel, or sketching out travel plans. And it can be anything you want it to be.
And don’t worry if some of your dreams seem outrageous. My friends and family said the same things about mine — until I landed a masthead title in a Canada’s biggest travel magazine, appeared on national primetime TV, and started hanging out with rock stars.
That’s when they started asking me how the hell I did
